About Us
Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club, “Sea Warriors”, “Sea Warriors”, Hawaiian words that describes our founding members and their passion for the Hawaiian culture and heihei waʽa (canoe racing). This youth only cultural immersion program was founded by Uncle Gus & Auntie Casey in November of 2011. This Hawaiian outrigger canoe club is dedicated to perpetuating the Hawaiian and Pacific Islander culture and fostering a lifestyle of health wellness.
Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization.
Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club has three purposes:
- Develop an appreciation of cultural heritage by educating our ʻōpio (youth) about the Hawaiian and Pacific Islander culture through ʻōlelo (language), na mea hana lima (hand crafts), oli (chants), nā pule (prayers), and moʻolelo kahiko O Hawaiʻi (ancient History of Hawaiʻi) in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment. To have our hui (club) recognized as a world class cultural immersion program centered around the Hawaiian canoe by promoting the Hawaiian culture, traditions and the development of our youth as future leaders.
- To conduct Hawaiian outrigger canoe regattas and festivals whose purpose will be to teach leadership and teamwork and create an opportunity for our youths and our community to experience through participation the essence of the Hawaiian culture.
- Teaching our ʻōpio (youth) about the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. This will be accomplished by combining wellness education including sound mind & body. And by preparing and encouraging them to participate in competitive outrigger canoe races.
